THE SKINCARE SECRETS OF THE NV TEAM

There's nothing we love more than talking about the latest products that have made their way onto the faces of the NV team! Skincare is a hot topic of discussion here in the NV office - more often than not, our Monday morning meeting begins with "babe, I went to Mecca on the weekend...".

If you're a Queen who is skincare obsessed, a sucker for anything retinol and nothing stops you from doing your nighttime routine even after a few Saturday night margaritas... we hear you, and this post is for you!

Here are the current step-by-step nighttime routines of the NV team (aka our in-house beauty Queens!).

THE SKINCARE PRODUCT YOU SIMPLY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

It’s so simple and often gets forgotten… but sunscreen!! It’s the no.1 anti-wrinkle cream in the world.

My favourites are the Mecca To Save Face Sunscreen and the Rationale Beautiful Skin Superfluid

CURRENT ROUTINE

STEP 1: Remove

First, I remove my makeup with micellar water, I don’t think it matters which brand you use as they’re literally all the same but I like the Garnier one!

STEP 2: Cleanse

As I’m prone to breakouts, I like to do a two-step cleanse to ensure I remove everything from the day. For my first cleanse I use an oil cleanser. Contrary to popular belief, oil cleansers don’t make you break out! Instead, they provide a good cleanse that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils. I like the Pro-Ceramide Pre-Cleanse Oil by Rationale or the Camellia Cleansing Oil by Tatcha

STEP 3: Cleanse.. again

For my second cleanse, I’m obsessed with the Pro-Ceramide Cleanser by Rationale. It’s AMAZING. It’s so good that it pains me to wash it off..

STEP 4: Fake that glow

My secret to maintaining a summer glow all year round.. I like to spritz some H20 Gradual Tan Mist by James Read all over my face and neck before piling on the rest of my skin care!

STEP 5: Repair

Now it’s time for the expensive stuff.. Next I go in with my serum. I’m currently using the Catalyst Milk Concentrate by Rationale which is amazing for retexturing uneven skin and boosting skin clarity (goodbye breakouts!).

STEP 6: Hydrate

Next, I go in with my moisturiser. If you can’t already tell, I’m completely obsessed with Rationale.. my bank account actually hates me. I use their Catalyst GelCreme, there’s nothing more to say other than this stuff really works, it’s hydrating, doesn’t make me break out and leaves my skin glowing.

STEP 7: Sleep

I got the cutest silk pillow case for my birthday last year and I’ve honestly never slept better. It also helps to prevent wrinkles, is better for your hair and won’t absorb your skins natural oils or skincare ;)

SKIN TYPE

Dry (think the Sahara Desert and then drier).

Like any pubescent teenager I would experience breakouts and an oily t-zone, however my biggest issue when I was younger was that my makeup would shift around on my face because I had dry patches and a completely uneven surface which made me really self-conscious.

It has taken me years to remedy this and to find the right products when it comes to cleansers and moisturisers as these products are super personal and one-size definitely does not fit all!

THE SKINCARE PRODUCT YOU SIMPLY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

Moisturiser of course! This is included in my AM and PM routine as it’s super important to have a supple, hydrated base. I find that dry skin makes me look tired and aged so I’d never skip this step.

CURRENT ROUTINE

Super basic at the moment! During the summer time I try not to wear too much makeup as I have a bronzed face already (courtesy of my recent Bali vacay), so I don’t have too much to remove at the end of the day. Because of this I find I can remove makeup and cleanse all at once.

STEP 1: Cleanse

Because I have dry skin I choose to use oil based cleaners or cleansing balms. My current favourite is the Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil by Bare Minerals because when applied with water it turns into a milky consistency (which I love) and doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped of all its natural oils.

Occasionally I will use any home-brand micellar water to remove my mascara if my cleanser hasn’t tackled it entirely.

STEP 2: Exfoliate

If I am experiencing problematic skin I might employ an exfoliant to rejuvenate tired and congested skin. When exfoliating I love Kate Somerville’s Intensive Exfoliating Treatment which was coined as Hollywood's ‘5 minute facial’. I love this one because a little goes a long way with this scrub and I trust it because the stars in Beverly Hills were said to have used this (Gwyneth Paltrow, I’m looking at you) as it’s recommended by makeup artists to the A-Listers.

If I am experiencing a breakout or noticing more blemishes than normal I will use a retinol to speed up the regeneration of skin cells which restores damaged skin from the inside out. You can apply a small amount all over the skins surface or use it as a spot treatment.

STEP 3: Brighten

The Vitamin C Suspension by The Ordinary is my new love! Vitamin C is high in antioxidant content which protects the skin from ageing, repairs existing damage or pigmentation and helps even out skin tone. I imagine it to be the equivalent of bathing my skin in OJ which sounds wonderful— albeit sticky.

Upon application, a tingling sensation can be felt which I enjoy because I know that it’s working right away. This formula can be quite dehydrating and harsh on sensitive skin so I combat this by using a serum in conjunction with it. I love Face Hero by Go-To. There’s no unnecessary bells and whistles and it does what it says.

STEP 4: Moisturise

I’m always on a hunt for new moisturiser recommendations and think that throughout my life I would’ve trialled them all! My favourite will always be one by Korres which immediately melts into the skin so I know that my cells are absorbing all the hydrating goodness! A little goes a long way with this one and it smells divine which is a huge tick for me.

Another favourite would be an the Avocado mask by Glow Recipe which nourishes skin overnight and is the perfect addition to anyone’s beauty sleep.

THE SKINCARE PRODUCT YOU SIMPLY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

Call me basic, but micellar water and I are joint at the hip! I can’t go past the Garnier Micellar Water, it’s affordable and effective.

CURRENT ROUTINE

STEP 1: Remove

First things first, I remove my makeup with my bestie.. Garnier micellar water.

STEP 2 - Cleanse

I cleanse with the Properly Clean facial cleanser by Go-To Skincare. It’s a gentle mousse that leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean.

STEP 3 - Exfoliate

In the PM’s I like to use my Exfoliating Swipeys from Go-To Skincare. With just one disposable cotton pad your skin will feel healthy and happy within 60 seconds! Note that over-exfoliating is not a vibe, these should only be used 2-3 times a week to avoid thin and raw skin.

STEP 4 - Glow Up

Who doesn’t enjoy a sheet mask? If I’m feeling extra and want to have luminous and bright skin for an event, I bring out my miracle worker.. Transformazing by Go-To. This is a 10-15 minute step that also requires a glass of wine and a bit of Netflix. Without fail, my skin is visually brighter once I remove the sheet mask.

STEP 5 - Repair

Time to bring out the oils! This is the product that got me obsessed with the entire Go-To range. I used to be afraid of using oils until I stumbled across Face Hero by Go-To. The name speaks for itself… It is the hero of my skincare routine!

STEP 6 - Hydrate

I finish my skincare routine with the Very Useful Face Cream by Go-To. This is a vital step to my TLC routine and leaves my skin feeling replenished!
